BCI celebrates World Hypertension Day

The Bulgarian Cardiology Institute celebrated World Hypertension Day – 17 May – with a number of events dedicated to improving the control of high blood pressure.

In an interview with 24 Hours, Prof. Dr. Yana Simova – Executive Director of BCI and Head of the Cardiology Clinic at the Heart and Brain Centers of Clinical Excellence in Pleven and Burgas, explained the damage that high blood pressure inflicts on all organs and systems and stressed the need for a healthier lifestyle and strict compliance with the prescribed drug therapy.

Across the country, BCI specialists answered questions, measured blood pressure and determined the individual cardiovascular risk of residents of Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Shumen and Yambol. Cardiologists from the specialized hospital in Pleven and the high-tech ‘Heart and Brain’ examined elderly patients in small settlements in Northwestern Bulgaria, while doctors from the hospital in Varna reminded the residents of the sea capital which symptoms of cardiovascular disease require a specialist cardiologist or emergency medical assistance.
