Kaloyan Dzhunov, MD

Dr. Kaloyan Dzhunov graduated from the Medical University “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov” in Varna in 2016. He began working as a resident in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department at UMHAT “Kanev” in Ruse, where he worked in the structures of the Anesthesiology Department, Surgical Intensive Care, and Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also has experience in the specialized Intensive Therapy Unit, as well as in the Emergency Medical Care Center (2017-2018). During his residency, he participated in the treatment of patients of all age groups, including children, with a variety of pathologies. He gained experience in conducting revolutionary anesthesiology techniques for the country, such as continuous spinal anesthesia with a spinal catheter, and neuraxial techniques for upper abdominal surgeries. He obtained his specialty in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in 2021. In 2022, he joined the team of the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department at “Heart and Brain” Center of Clinical Excellence in Burgas.

His main professional interests are focused on anesthesia for lung surgeries, including anesthesia for thoracoscopies in awake patients and tubeless thoracoscopies, regional anesthesia, and pain management of the trunk, and the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome in children and adults. He has experience in performing basic bronchoscopy and lung ultrasound.

Since the beginning of 2024, he has been elected as a member of the council of ESAIC (European Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care) as the only candidate from Bulgaria. He has participated in congresses of the Society of Anesthesiologists in Bulgaria and has three participations in the largest forum for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care – Euroanesthesia.
