Prof. Veselin Petrovvascular surgeon

Prof. Veselin Petrov is the head of the department of vascular surgery in ‘Heart and Brain’ Burgas. He graduated cum laude from VMI Pleven and acquired specialties in general surgery and vascular surgery. He is a long-term lecturer at the Sofia Medical Academy. Besides theoretical and scientific activity prof. Petrov is also a very active vascular surgeon who operates the most complex cases in the field of carotid, abdominal and peripheral vascular pathology, as well as vascular access for hemodialysis.

Prof. Petrov is a pioneer in the development of Doppler sonography both in Sofia and in a number of clinics in the country – vascular surgery at VMI Pleven, Sofia. Ruse, Burgas, etc. Over the years, he has managed some of the leading clinics in the country.

In 1995 he defended his dissertation on “Transcranial Doppler Sonography in Surgery of the Aortic Arch Arteries“, which was the first dissertation on vascular sonography in Bulgaria. He is the author of key monographs, including “Practical Aspects of Doppler Sonography“, “Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) – Surgical Treatment“, the extensive monograph “Vascular Sonography“, which deals with all aspects of Doppler sonography in various specialties. Editor-in-chief, author and co-author of numerous textbooks on surgical vascular access, vascular surgery. Member of the editorial board of the journal Angiology and Vascular Surgery. The publications of prof. Petrov’s research papers have been published in the most reputable scientific journals – Lancet, British Medical Journal, ESVS, Angiology, etc., with the highest impact factor in the world.

He is co-founder, two-term president and member of the Bulgarian National Society of Vascular Surgery and Angiology.
