Prof. Vasil Todorov graduated in medicine at the Medical Academy – Sofia in 1979. He has a specialty in internal medicine since 1984 and a specialty in nephrology since 1986. He defended two theses in nephrology, dedicated to cystic diseases of the kidneys. He has two scientific degrees – “Doctor of Medicine” since 1990 and “Doctor of Medical Sciences” since 2009. He has been an associate professor since 1995 and a professor of nephrology since 2010. He is certified in abdominal ultrasonography and puncture renal biopsy.
From 1988 to 2000 he worked with the Institute of Human Genetics in Münster, Germany. He has more than 130 publications in Bulgarian and foreign scientific journals, three monographs, co-authored seven textbooks, edited two textbooks. He has supervised more than 40 postgraduate students in internal medicine, more than 20 postgraduate students in nephrology and five PhD students. He is a member of four Bulgarian and international scientific organizations, a member of the editorial board of four medical journals in Bulgaria. He has twice been a national consultant in dialysis.
From 1980 to 2024 he was a lecturer at the Medical University of Pleven, in various positions – assistant, senior and chief assistant, associate professor, professor. From 2000 to 2021 he was the head of the departments of internal medicine and nephrology, hematology and gastroenterology. From 1980 to 1994 he worked at the Clinic of Nephrology and Dialysis of the University Hospital “Dr. From 1995 to 2023 he was the head of the same.
His scientific and professional interests and contributions are in the field of cystic kidney diseases, acute and chronic renal failure, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatment.
