Assoc. Prof. Elitza Betcheva-Krajcir is Head of the medical genetics laboratory – part of the Center for Molecular Oncopathology in Heart and Brain Hospital in Pleven. She graduated in Medicines and obtained a degree in Medical Genetics at the Medical University, Sofia. In 2010 she obtained a PhD in Human Genetics with research supervisors Prof. Dr. Draga Toncheva and Prof. Dr. Yusuke Nakamura.
2007 – 2008 she specialized in Molecular Genetics in Japan with Prof. Dr. Yusuke Nakamura – a leading scientist in the field of personalized medicine and one of the world’s pioneers in the development and application of methods for complete genomic sequencing, the genome-wide association study (GWAS) and identification polymorphic variants in humans. Since 2014 she has specialized in Human Genetics in Dresden, Germany. She worked in the Department of Internal Medicine with an intensive care unit and as pediatrician and pediatric surgeon at the Children’s Center Dresden-Friedrichstadt, Germany. She is part of the German Consortium for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer.
Assoc. Prof. Betcheva-Krajcir has trained students of medicine and pharmacology in Bulgarian, English and German (Medical University of Sofia, Biological Faculty at the Sofia University, Medical University of Dresden). She has a large number of publications in renowned scientific journals with over 200 citations and is co-author of several textbooks in genomic medicine and oncology.
