Dimo Mitev, MD is a General Surgeon with many years of experince. He graduated from the Medical University of Plovdiv and the University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland in 2013. In 2016 he acquired a second master`s degree in Health Management and Public Health at the Medical University of Plovdiv. In 2020 he finished his residency in General Surgery.
After acquiring a specialty in surgery, Dr. Mitev continued to work both at UMBALSM Pirogov – mainly performing thoracoscopic, laparoscopic and emergency operations and as a consultant surgeon at the Plastic Surgery clinic at “Zdraveto” Medical Center, Sofia and National Hospital of Cardiology, Sofia.
His professional interests are focused on minimally invasive thoracic surgery – VATS and single-port VATS, reconstructive surgery and oncology. He has published several articles on these topics in scientific journals.
Dr. Mitev practiced and specialized in Münster (Germany), Innsbruck (Austria), Brno (Czech Republic), Greece and Bulgaria.
In 2022, Barcelona, Spain, Dr. Mitev became certified to work with the Da Vinci robotic surgical system.
He has undergone a number of trainings and is accredited to perform single-portal VATS resections in benign and malignant lung diseases by the world’s leading thoracic surgeons – prof. Diego González Rivas, prof. Tomaž Štupnik, MD, PhD, prof. Wentao Fang, M.D.
Completed courses:
– Uniportal VATS in Lisbon, Portugal.
– Thoracoscopic segmentectomies in Hamburg, Germany.
– Uniportal video-assisted surgery – Potsdam, Germany.
In 2023, he completed a training exchange program in Shanghai, China at the Shanghai Chest Hospital in Thoracic Surgery, performing surgical procedures on the esophagus and the lungs.
As of December 2021, Dr. Mitev has been part of the Thoracic Surgery department of Heart and Brain Medical Center, Burgas. Fluent in English, German and Polish.
