Medical imaging

About the department:
The medical imaging department provides all contemporary possibilities for quality and timely diagnostics of all anatomic organs and systems.

We work with contemporary, high-resolution digital equipment allowing high quality imaging, used for diagnosing and treating of a large spectrum of ailments: a Philips Ingenia MR-OR magnetic resonance system, two 128 slice Philips Incisive computer tomographs, a Hologic Selenia Dimensions digital mammography apparatus featuring a 2D stereotaxic biopsy system, Philips Juno DRF and PSR Eleva S Plus digital X-ray apparatuses and a Philips Clear view 350 ultrasound apparatus.

With the iDose4 innovative system, we benefit from improved imaging quality at low levels of radiation thanks to the prevention of artifact occurrence, lower noise levels and increased spatial resolution. Using the newest technological advances, the levels of patient irradiation with ionizing radiation are reduced by 50% on average.

Philips Ingenia MR-OR is the only intraoperative MR in Bulgaria and in the Balkans, allowing for high quality imaging during neurosurgical procedures and providing updates on neuro-navigation as well as information on the surgical progress. During examination, patients are smoothly transferred between the operating room and the Philips Ingenia MR-OR system, with only minimal lengthening of the operative intervention and the possibility to save the OR settings for a more effective neurosurgical working process.

Activities:
Our department performs:

CT angiography of the thoracoabdominal aorta – this method is useful for the evaluation of a possible aortic dissection, aneurysm and evaluating the stage of the vascular atheromatous disease.

Cardiac CT angiography – this method is useful for the evaluation of coronary vessels, as well as for performing a functional analysis of the myocardia.

CT angiography of pulmonary vessels, pulmonary thromboembolism – this method is useful for assessing an eventual pulmonary thromboembolism. It allows to track thrombotic masses up to the segmental and subsegmental level of pulmonary blood circulation.

CT of the head – all diseases of the central nervous system requiring a fast and timely diagnosis: ischemic and hemorrhagic cerebral infarction, voluminous malignant processes in the cranial cavity, congenital anomalies and/or any related variations of normal anatomy, which have an impact on subsequent surgical interventions; diseases concerning the small vessels of the cerebral circulation, post-surgery patient monitoring; cranio-cerebral traumatism; inflammatory diseases of the cerebrum and meninges; pathological processes concerning the paranasal cavities. For the needs of specialists from the neurology and neurosurgery clinics, this method reveals dilatation and narrowing along the course of cerebral vessels.

Pulmonary CT – this type of examination reveals the presence of pulmonary diseases, including tumors, long before these diseases make themselves known through their characteristic clinical symptoms.

CT – abdomen and lower pelvis – this method is useful for the evaluation of pathologies of the organs in the abdomen and the lower pelvis – buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity and lower pelvis, gas buildup, inflammatory disorders, postoperative alterations and/or disseminations.

CT – peripheral angiography – this method allows non-invasive evaluation of the vessels on upper and lower limbs in patients with chronic arterial insufficiency.

In addition, the department performs X-ray imaging, mammography and magnetic resonance. The new Digital Radiography system allows to capture data directly on a detecting surface and then transfer the image wirelessly to a workstation. The DR system gives the possibility of storing multiple images. Once the exposure is over, images can be processed, put in storage, sent through a network in DICOM format or written on CD / DVD / USB.
