Prof. Asen Baltov, MD, is one of the most experienced orthopedists in Bulgaria. He currently heads the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at ‘Heart and Brain’ Center of Clinical Excellence, Burgas
Between February 2017 and July 2021, he was the executive director of Pirogov Hospital. Prior to that, he was the head of the First Traumatology Clinic at the University Emergency Hospital.
Since April 1, 2019, he has been the coordinator of the Expert Council on Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Ministry of Health.
In 1994, he graduated from the Medical University of Sofia. Two years later, he began specializing in orthopedics and traumatology at the Second Traumatology Clinic at the Pirogov University Hospital. He worked at the emergency hospital until December 2006. From the end of 2006 to February 2013, he was a resident at the Department of Orthopedic Traumatology and Reconstructive Surgery at the Military Medical Academy.
He is a specialist in the field of surgical treatment of fractures and dislocations of the limbs and pelvis; treatment of multiple trauma and post-traumatic injuries of the limbs; endoprosthetics of upper limb joints – shoulder and elbow. In June 2016, he was awarded the degree of “professor.”
