Lidiya Dimova, PhD is the molecular biologist of the Medical Genetics Laboratory. She has a research profile in the field of molecular metabolism and epigenetics, with extensive experience in research at the frontiers of basic biomedical science.
She has a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from the Sofia University and a Master’s degree in Biomolecular Sciences from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, where she also defended her PhD, working with Prof. Uwe Tiege and Prof. HenkJan Verkade in the field of metabolic programming and the identification of epigenetic factors contributing to cardio-metabolic health during aging. In Groningen she conducts her first research using NGS technology and acquires the high technical skills, flexibility and precision which are essential for working in the field of molecular oncodiagnostics. In 2017 she joined the NovoNordisk Foundation in Copenhagen, Denmark as a postdoctoral researcher. Dr Dimova initiated and was involved in several successful domestic and international collaborations that led to multiple high-impact publications (Gastroenterology, Redox Biol, ATVB, Sci Rep, Nutr Metab, etc.). During her academic career at various stages she was involved in lab maintenance and management, training of students, junior lab members and technical staff. She has a broad interdisciplinary perspective and a view to the development of diagnostic pathways, in the center of which the patient is placed.
Since the end of 2020 she is part of Dr. Betcheva’s team at the Heart and Brain Center of Clinical Excellence in Pleven.
