Prof. Asparuh Asparuhov, MD, PhDorthopaedic trauma surgeon

Prof. Asparuh Asparuhov is Head of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Clinic at the Heart and Brain Center of Excellence in Pleven. He graduated from the Higher Medical Institute in Sofia in 1975 and acquired a specialty in Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 1982 . He holds a Master’s degree in Health Management.

For more than 40 years he worked at the University Hospital “Dr. Georgi Stranski” in Pleven as an assistant, chief assistant and associate professor, head of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic. For many years he was head of the Department and lecturer in Orthopaedics and Traumatology; since 2008 he has been professor at the Medical University of Pleven. Two terms Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He specialized in Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Sweden, Spain, Croatia, Turkey, USA, etc. Professor. Prof. Asparuhov has professional and scientific interests in sports trauma, minimally invasive surgery, primary and revision arthroplasty of large joints (hip, knee and shoulder), pediatric orthopedics, trauma and reconstructive surgery.

He was awarded 7 national prizes of the Bulgarian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and the prize of the Hungarian Orthopaedic Society. He represents Bulgaria in ESCA (European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy), SICOT (Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie ; Société Européenne de Chirurgie de l’Epaule et du Coude); honorary member of Serbian, Macedonian and Israeli orthopaedic associations. Author and co-author of 402 scientific reports and publications in the country and abroad.
