Prof. Ivan Dimitrov, MDneurologist

Prof. Ivan Dimitrov graduated from the Medical University – Varna in 2002. Since 2007 he is a specialist in nervous diseases. Until 2021 he worked as a neurologist at the First Clinic of Nervous Diseases at the University St. Marina Hospital in Varna and as a specialist in neurosurgery at the University of Varna. He is qualified in neuropsychology, electroencephalography, evoked potentials, Doppler sonography. The professional and scientific interests of prof. Dimitrov’s scientific and research interests are in the field of cognitive disorders and dementia, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, etc.

He defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Education and Science, organizing the first study on the prevalence of dementias in Bulgaria, as well as for the degree of Doctor of Science, focusing on cognitive impairment and brain volume in patients with multiple sclerosis. He has held the positions of assistant, senior and chief assistant Professor at the Department of Nervous Diseases of the Medical University – Varna. Since 2013 he has been an associate professor and since 2018 – a professor. From 2013 to 2021 he was initially the Head of the Department of Health Care and then the Director of the University Branch in Varna. He was also the head of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sliven. He has published two monographs, co-authored textbooks and teaching aids.

Prof. Dimitrov heads the clinic of nervous diseases at the Heart and Brain Center of Excellence in Burgas.
